HOMESTAY PULAU AMAN
If your idea of a homestay is taking off to somewhere quiet and peaceful, Pulau Aman is the perfect choice. With a total population of only 260 people, this island of 288 acres is located about 25 nautical miles from mainland. The name of Pulau Aman literally means island of peace, suggesting tranquility and serenity. This quiet island does not have roads and only a cement pavement is available for one to cycle or walk. Majority of the locals are fishermen and fishing enthusiast can opt for the various packages available here. It is here that in Pulau Aman that Belacan was used to make a shrimp paste by many locals to enhance the flavor of various dishes. Many locals also involved in deer and cockles breeding activities to sustain their livelihood.
For history buffs, don't miss sites such as the Telaga Emas (Well of Gold). It is believed that in the year of 1789, a local who dug this well hit on a hard object that appeared to be a gold vase. However, after further investigations by the British administration and villagers, it was revealed that the object was just a gold-colored hard stone. Though the well is situated less than a meter away from the sea during high tide, the water never runs dry even during the worst drought, is a must visit place for anyone who goes to Pulau Aman.
