HOMESTAY SUNGAI CHENAAM
When you get to the Sungai Chenaam homestay, the calm will engulf you. Its location is near the beach and creates a nice windy atmosphere all year round. There is an old story that tells of how this village got its name. It is believed that once a little boy had asked his mother for something to eat. He said , 'Mak, che nak aam, I want to eat'. This led to the village being named Chenaam. Today with a population close to 2500, Sungai Chenaam has 30 homes that participate in this homestay program.
Approximately 3567 acres of the land area were opened for agricultural activities with paddy fields being the dominant choice. Other plantations include palm oil, coconut trees, vegetables, dragon fruits and chilies.
The disctinctivity of Sungai Chenaam is in its eco-tourism. There are 53 ponds dedicated to rearing tiger prawns, witness how cows and goats are reared, you could even join the farmers to milk a goat or a cow.
Sungai Chenaam also offers a taste of exciting traditional leisure games like Sepak Takraw and kite flying. Demonstration of kite making and flying is something visitors must see when they are here. Interesting materials such as old clothes and umbrellas are used to make these kites. Visitors are also treated to Malay traditional entertainment such as Silat, Boria, Nasyid, Berzanji and Marhaban dances. These are also a 40-member Quran recital group that is invited to homes to perform.
