HOMESTAY KUBANG TELAGA
The hypnotic sound of the kertok, a traditional musical instrument, greets you upon arriving at Kubang Telaga Village, located in Bachok, Kelantan. These uniquely shaped musical instruments are often heard during special occasions to welcome guests and are played at weddings.
The warm and friendly welcome by villagers showcases their delightful hospitality found in the Malay culture in Kelantan. Musicians beat the kertok in Tandem, producing a unique sound, inherent of the Malay culture and age-old traditions found in Kelantan. Traditional pastimes are still preserved here, especially Gasing and Blade-Making, still made meticulously by hand.
The villagers can expertly spin the Gasing on the hardwood. It takes several days for them to make a good Gasing, and the results are impressive. The skilled villagers also light up a fires to heat iron blades, and knock them into shape. This ancient tradition produces highly sought after small sickles (parang), and even the epitome of Malay culture, the keris- a dagger-like weapon. A village steeped in tradition, a visit here is a delightful eye-opener into the ancient Malay wisdom of Kelantanese folk.
